The course is aimed at delegates whose job/volunteer role could bring them into contact with a suicidal person, providing them with the knowledge and skills to provide support to an individual. If you or someone you know requires emotional support, please call Samaritans’ free helpline 116 123.
This course is suitable for anyone who position may bring them into contact with people who have suicidal thoughts.
This course will take place in three two hour sessions as detailed below. You need to attend all three sessions to receive a certificate.

At the end of this course attendees will be able to:
- Show that you have listened, heard and understood.
- Understand and acknowledge suicidal thoughts and feelings.
- Understand how talking about suicidal thoughts and feelings can be beneficial.
- Recognise signs of distress and suicidal thoughts.
- Approach someone who is feeling suicidal.
- Support or refer someone who is feeling suicidal.
